On May 6, 2023, Irasshai: Eat, Drink, Kanpai! presented by Central Pacific Bank Foundation drew a crowd of over 400 people and offered food and drink from over sixteen restaurants and local businesses. As guests entered the torii gate, their faces lit up as they caught sight of the colorful lanterns, banners and yagura adorning the courtyard. A rousing taiko performance by the Taiko Center of the Pacific kicked off the festivities, followed by Okinawan beats by the Ryukyu Koten Ongaku Afuso Ryu Gensei Kai of Hawaii.
While enjoying the culinary delights, guests were invited to explore the special activities on the 1st floor, including a demonstration of the 3D scanning of JCCH artifacts being completed by high school students at Mid-Pacific Institute. Local writer Scott Kikkawa talked story with visitors in the Tokioka Heritage Resource Center, which Scott often relies upon to research his books.
Mahalo to all of our table sponsors, guests, donors, volunteers, and partners in the community for your support in this new endeavor. Thank you for helping us to achieve our fundraising goals and to showcase the Center as an energizing community gathering place.
We look forward to hosting Irasshai next year and hope you will plan to be a part of it!
